The “Falconer” Fireside Settle Bench is a reproduction of an original Early American piece.
In colonial times when most homes were heated entirely by wood stoves or fireplaces, a fireside settle bench would be a very common thing to find in these homes. When placed in front of a fireplace, because of the shape of the settle with its high deep sides and top, the heat from the fire would be trapped in the bench totally surrounding its occupant with the fires warmth. It was very simple contraption but most often it would be the best seat in the house!
